1. How does Lotame collect data for audience segments?

We deploy our Behavioral Collection Pixels (BCP tags) across our publishing partner’s sites. BCP tags are two “light” lines of code that enable our targeting platform, Crowd Control, to gather, organize and analyze data our analysts identify as valuable based on patterns discovered. We collect more than 2 billion individual demographic, interest, action, search and purchase intent data points daily and package the data into smart audience segments, called Smart Data. Additionally, we partner with on and offline data partners who provide declared or demonstrated – not panel based – data to maximize scale.


2. How does Lotame qualify and categorize Smart Data?

As raw data filters into Crowd Control, Lotame’s premier data management platform, two technological processes classify the data:

(1) Lotame’s proprietary technology collects behavioral data through the site’s URL and uniquely identifies patterns and information in the site’s content to create a set of rules. Using these rules, Lotame transfers data via a BCP tag on every page into Crowd Control’s behavioral taxonomies.

(2) A supplementary manual review process minimizes import error, which yields the most accurate and valuable data in the industry.


3. How does Lotame take vast amounts of unorganized data and make it valuable to marketers?

Crowd Control, Lotame’s cutting-edge data management platform, organizes each behavioral data point into one of 1,000 category folders, or taxonomies. For example, when someone searches for the New York Jets, they are identified as having an interest in football, the Jets and the NFL, and the data is categorized accordingly. This gives marketers the option to select and target audiences wide in scope, such as “sports and recreation,” or the option to target a more granular audience such as “NFL fans.”

Our segments are refreshed in real time.  As soon as a user goes to a site, we begin collecting data.  We categorize the data within 24 hours, and the audience segments are automatically updated.
